Video tutorial - CLICK HERE
In this tutorial, I will demonstrate how to set up a discount code and attach it to an event or collection.
To begin, ensure that you are logged into the online admin area.
Next, navigate to the Config tab using the menu on the left-hand side, then select the ‘Discount Codes’ tab.
This will open the ‘Discount Code’ window.
Here, you may see previous discount codes that have been set up in the past or ones that are currently active. For this demonstration, as it’s the first discount I have added for this ticketing website, it will show a blank page.
To proceed, click on ‘Add new discount code’.
This will open the ‘Discount Code Edit’ window.
Here is what a blank discount code table looks like. For the purpose of explanation, I have added numbers to the fields.
-
Discount Code
- Rules: Uppercase only. Combination of letters and numbers. Maximum character length of 30.
- This is where you add the name of the discount code.
-
Valid From
- Rules: Strict date format only.
- This is the date you want the discount to be available from, i.e., the start date of use. You can add the date manually or use the calendar icon on the right-hand side.
-
Valid To
- Rules: Strict date format only.
- This is the date you want the discount to end, i.e., the last date of use. You can add the date manually or use the calendar icon on the right-hand side.
-
Discount Percentage Rate
- Rules: Numbers only. You do not have to add the % sign.
- This is how much percentage you want the ticket price to reduce by. For example, 100 would make it a free ticket. 10 would reduce a ticket by 10%.
-
Minimum Ticket Quantity
- Rules: Numbers only.
- This is the number of tickets a customer will need to buy before the discount code will activate. For example, if set to 2, the discount code will not activate on a single ticket.
-
Minimum Monetary Value
- Rules: Numbers only.
- This is the minimum sale amount needed before the code will activate.
-
Active Tick Box
- This indicates whether you want the discount to be live or disabled. Untick to stop the discount from working.
Here is an example of a 20 percent discount code named VIP, which I have set up and is ready to be used for one of my events.
The VIP discount mentioned above will be activated when one ticket has been added to the basket and the total value is £10 or over. The discount rate will be 20% off the total price. If for any reason I wanted to stop this discount, then I would untick the Active checkbox.
Once you have completed the discount code table, remember to click the ‘Save’ button.
Attaching the Discount Code to an Event or Collection
Below the discount table, you can attach the discount code to an event, or even a full collection of events.
Let’s look at how to attach the discount code to an event.
Using the blank field labelled ‘Product’, start to type the title of the event. As you add characters into the box, you will see it starts to display events with those characters within the title.
Just by entering the letter ‘s’, I can see the event called ‘Scream Night’, to which I want to attach the discount code. So, I am going to select ‘Scream Night’ as the event title.
Once selected, you will see the title has indeed been added in the blank field. Next, I will click the ‘Add Products’ button to action my choice.
You can confirm that the discount code has been attached to the event by looking in the ‘Discount Code Items’ table at the bottom of the page. You will see the title of the event in the table.
If you wanted to add the discount code to a collection. All you would do is follow the same procedure, but use the Collection blank field to the right.
As an additional check, you can always test this on the ticketing website by adding some tickets to the basket and then adding the discount code in the discount field.
